Password Protected Directories
Discover how to create a secure and user-only area in your web site with password-protected directories.
A password-protected directory is a folder which can't be accessed unless the proper login credentials are provided. This can be an entire website or simply one page that's in a subfolder. If you try to open this kind of a directory, you'll see a web browser pop-up in which you will have to enter a username and a password. If you type the appropriate ones, you will be able to continue exploring the content without needing to do anything additional. If the login credentials are not correct, however, you'll see a note that you aren't authorized to see the content. In case this option is active, you will not be able to open a file even if you have a direct link. The function is quite useful if you wish to restrict the access to some content or if you are creating a site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it prior to it being ready.
Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting
If you use any of our shared hosting plans, you'll be able to set up password-protected areas with ease even if you have no experience with such matters. We have included a very easy-to-use point-and-click tool into the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with all accounts, so you will be able to secure any folder within merely seconds. You will simply have to choose a domain or a subdomain and the particular folder that should be protected (the main one or a subfolder), and then to type in the desired username and password that will be used to access the folder in question later on. Each secured folder shall have padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you'll be able to see at a glance what content is secured and what's not. If needed, you may create several different sets of login credentials for precisely the same folder.
